Procedure for Voting By Absentee Ballot

Applications for absentee ballots may be obtained between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays, from the District Clerk or downloaded here. Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. After review of the application by the District Clerk the ballot may be mailed or picked up personally by the voter only. No absentee voter ballot will be accepted or counted without a valid application form signed by the voter. Absentee ballots that do not reach the Office of the District Clerk or the appropriate polling location by 5:00 p.m. on the day of the election, Tuesday, May 20, 2014 will not be canvassed.

Absentee ballots cannot be mailed before 30 days prior to the vote.

The only persons entitled to vote on May 20, 2014 are “qualified voters” that is, persons who are citizens of the United States, at least 18 years of age, who have been residents of the Port Washington School District for a period of 30 days immediately preceding May 20, 2014. In addition, persons seeking to vote must be registered to vote. Registration is permitted daily, on days when school is in session, in the Office of the District Clerk (located in the Administration Building at 100 Campus Drive), during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., up to and including May 14, 2014 (five days before the election).

The register of qualified voters shall include qualified voters who have registered to vote previously and have voted in any annual or special school district meeting or election of the District within the four prior calendar years; and qualified voters of the school district who are registered with the Nassau County Board of Elections to vote in general elections, pursuant to the provisions of Article 5 of the Election Law.
