Dear Port Washington Community:

We want to make you aware that this morning it was brought to our attention that a Weber student made a verbal threat of violence against Guggenheim Elementary School. The local law enforcement agencies were promptly notified and began investigating the threat.

The student who made the threat was immediately identified and parents were contacted by law enforcement. After investigation, the police determined that at no time were any students or staff in danger While privacy laws prohibit us from discussing specific details of the investigation or discipline of any specific individual, we can assure you that any student found responsible for making a threat of violence faces consequences as allowable by both our Code of Conduct and the law.

We all play a vital role in any school-wide safety effort; it is the duty and responsibility of students, staff, and families to report any potential threats to the proper individuals. Threatening language or behavior in any form must be taken very seriously and reported to law enforcement immediately.  We appreciate the student who took action in this instance and notified the administration of the threatening language.

As a precautionary measure, there is increased police presence and security at both Guggenheim Elementary and Weber Middle School for the remainder of today.

As always, we sincerely appreciate your understanding.
