According to ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), you may request specific information as to the qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher and teacher assistant.
You are entitled to request the following information:
- Whether the teacher has met State qualifications and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides the instruction;
- Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualifications or licensing criteria have been waived;
- The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field discipline of the certification or degree; and
- Whether your child is provided services by a teacher assistant, and if so, their qualification.
Please contact your child’s building principal, in writing, if you require this information.
