Schreiber Seniors Honored as 2026 Mentor New York Peer Mentors of the Year

Port Washington School District is proud to announce that Paul D. Schreiber High School seniors Mario Zavala Acosta and Jhan Segarra have been selected as recipients of the 2026 Luke Boisi Family Mentor of the Year Award by Mentor New York. Honored at a statewide ceremony, this recognition places them among top student leaders within the national mentoring movement.

Their journey with the district’s mentoring initiatives began in 8th grade at Weber Middle School, where both students started as mentees in the College Pioneers Mentoring program. Inspired by their experience, they stepped into leadership roles as Peer Mentors in the Global Thinkers Club, dedicating their high school years to supporting and guiding younger students 6th-8th grade.

“Your achievement makes me proud, but your growth inspires me most. Honored to have been part of your journey; keep leading, inspiring, and lifting others.” said Ms. Monica Chuchon, Port Washington College Pioneers/Global Thinkers Club Advisor. "Their dedication to paying it forward and building a supportive community for our younger students represents the very best of Schreiber High School." said Ms. Daniela Venegas.

Please join us in congratulating Mario and Jhan on this distinguished honor!
