More than 5,000 students in grades Kâ12 headed back to school in Port Washington on September 2, kicking off the 2026â2027 school year under this year's district theme: Building on Excellence.
Elementary students met their teachers, found their new classrooms, and got a first taste of what the year ahead will look like. At Weber Middle School and Schreiber High School, students settled into new schedules, went over course outlines, and caught up with classmates and teachers after the summer.
Throughout the district, principals, teachers, and staff worked together to ensure that every student had a strong beginning. This year's theme celebrates the extraordinary strengths already present across Port Washington's schools, while looking ahead to the opportunities to make an already exceptional district even stronger.
The district's theme was introduced by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gaurav Passi during Convocation, where he reflected on the care, dedication, and sense of community he has witnessed throughout Port Washington and spoke to the powerful role educators play in shaping not only what students learn, but what they come to believe about themselves. "Children become more of who they believe they can be because of the experiences we create for them," Dr. Passi said.
