Dear Port Washington Families,
We have just received updated guidance from the New York State Education Department. As a result, Monday, February 23, will now be a traditional snow day. There will be no remote instruction.
Earlier today, the Commissioner of Education announced that districts required to close due to this storm may receive a waiver from the 180-day instructional requirement for February 23. The State recognized that most districts have been on February recess and were therefore not in a position to prepare for remote instruction.
With this flexibility in place, we are able to provide students and staff with a true snow day on Monday.
At this time, the State has not indicated that the same flexibility would apply if additional closures are necessary later in the week. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and will communicate promptly if any further adjustments are required.
All school buildings will be closed, and all after-school and evening activities are canceled tomorrow.
Thank you for your patience and partnership as we navigate the winter weather together. Please stay safe and warm.
Sincerely,
Gaurav Passi, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
