Last week, Sousa Elementary welcomed the LIU Dean’s Scholars program, along with Dr. Passi and Dr. Seinfeld, for a firsthand look at RULER in action.
RULER, an evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning that helps school communities understand the value of emotions, build skills to manage emotions effectively, and create learning environments where educator and student well-being come first. Sousa is recognized as a RULER Spotlight School (for the third consecutive year) for its excellence in integrating these practices into daily teaching and school culture.
The Scholars participated in a RULER crash course, toured the building to see how emotional intelligence practices are embedded throughout the school, observed RULER-focused lessons in our classrooms, experienced Green Time, met Hudson (the school’s therapy dog), and received a kit to create their own classroom Charter.
It was a great day of learning, sharing, and highlighting the Social Emotional Learning work happening at Sousa.
