    Schreiber High School
    Senior Experience Program

    For All Seniors

The Senior Experience at Schreiber High School is the culminating experience in a student's high school career. All seniors are required to complete a Senior Experience prior to graduation from Schreiber. The intent of this requirement is to provide students with an opportunity to design, propose, and carry out a project of their own choice on a topic of personal interest.  There are a number of “pathways” that may be chosen to  complete this requirement.

The many different ways that seniors may complete this requirement are:

    • Enroll in the one semester course entitled Senior Options.

This course is taught in the second semester of each school year and is intended to provide a focused means to develop a Senior Experience project by taking an elective that is dedicated to that goal. The assessment for this requirement will be included in the course grade. [NOTE: Students who enroll in this course in the spring will take a one semester course in Economics in the fall or Advanced Placement Macroeconomics and Microeconomics.]

    • Enroll in one of the three themed Participation in Government and Economics full year courses.

Each of these courses includes an embedded Senior Experience project such as an internship, community service, or creative component. The project will be designed in class during the first semester and students will receive release time from class during the second semester to complete the project. The assessment for this requirement will be included in the course grade.

    • Enroll in the full year course entitled Senior Options: Film and Literature.

This course includes an embedded Senor Experience that entails writing and producing some type of a media project (i.e., film, commercial). The project will be designed in class during the first semester and students will receive release time from class during the second semester to complete the project. The assessment for this requirement will be included in the course grade.

    • Enroll in the semester course entitled Seniors Options: Theatre Arts.

    This course

    • Enroll in the full year course entitled FACS Senior Experience

    • Enroll in the full year course entitled Financial Algebra: Senior Experience

    • Enroll in the full year course entitled Senior Options Health Elective

    •  Conduct an Independent Study Senior Experience project.

For AP students who do not take a course that includes an embedded project, an Independent Study Senior Experience project will be proposed and submitted to one AP teacher during the third marking period. The Senior Experience project will be independently conducted during the time period after AP exams are completed in mid-May. Depending on the time commitment of the project itself, students will be released from attending some or all AP classes after AP exams are over in order to complete the project. Seniors will receive a “P” (Pass) or an “F” (No Pass) in order to register completion on student transcripts.

It is possible that students might be on more than one pathway that leads to a Senior Experience project. The Senior Experience coordinator will assist these students to plan a course of action. If you have any questions about this requirement, see your grade level Assistant Principal or your Guidance Counselor.
