About Mrs. Friedman
6th Grade Chorus & 7th/8th Grade General Music
Mrs. Friedman has always loved music from an early age and her parents even recall her saying that she wanted to be a music teacher since she was in elementary school. (Actually, she even put "music teacher" as her future occupation in her fifth grade yearbook!)
She currently holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and a Master of Arts degree in Music (with a concentration in Music Composition and Arranging) from C.W. Post University. She also holds a Master of Science in Instructional Technology for Educators from NYIT. She is a Google certified teacher and an Apple teacher.
While she can technically play all the instruments (just not all of them professionally...) her main instruments are the piano (classical/jazz), viola, and bass (jazz/rock). However she been known to rock out on clarinet, trombone, baritone, saxophone, ukulele, guitar, and/or random percussion instruments.
In 2005, Mrs. Friedman began her journey in Port Washington at Salem Elementary School where she taught K-5 general music, 4th & 5th grade chorus, and assorted instrumental lessons. She also ran the Salem Jazz Band, started and ran the annual Salem Talent Show, and performed at local venues with her students. In 2014, Mrs. Friedman "moved up" to Weber Middle School where is currently teaching 6th grade general music and 7/8th grade general music. She is also the co-advisor of the Weber Drama Club and the co-advisor of the music technology club.Before coming to Salem, Mrs. Friedman worked at a private school named East Woods and taught Nursery - 2nd grade general music, 6-9th grade chorus, and 5-9th grade drama. She has also worked in many camps over the years including The USDAN Center for the Creative & Performing Arts (director/theater), Robin Hood Country Day Camp (music counselor), Hofstra Summer Camp's Musical Theatre Specialty Camp (Assistant Director/Musical Director), Camp Jacobson (music specialist), and most recently Camp Iconic (musical theatre/digital production specialist).
Mrs. Friedman has a variety of hobbies and of course most of them involve music! She enjoyed playing bass in numerous bands over the last twelve years including: "The B'lights" and "Mary's Laugh." She also enjoys composing and arranging music and has had a few of pieces performed by the Salem chorus and band! One of her main hobbies is musical theatre. She has worked in numerous schools, camps, and community theaters as a director and/or musical director. She also plays in the pit orchestras for local productions as well.
