• HELPING CHILDREN IN THE WAKE OF VIOLENCE

It is nearly impossible for adults to make sense of such horrific tragedies that seem to occur weekly in our country and around the globe.   As adults, we learn to cope in many varied ways:  we talk with our friends, reach out to family members for comforting words, or seek out faith for healing thoughts.  We wrestle with the significance of these events and "carry on"- like the motivational poster promoted by the British in 1939.  And though we have learned or are learning to cope it is even more challenging for children to comprehend and understand.

If your elementary school-aged child has questions about an "event" or is looking to you for comfort and understanding, here are some recommendations. I encourage you to take a moment to review some of the suggestions and guidelines I've included below.

Please call me with any questions or concerns.  I can be reached at (516)767-5325 or on main office number (516)767-5305.
